FAQs about custom closets

My closet is a disaster! How do I fix it?
You’re in the right place! Start by browsing our website for inspiration! This gives you the opportunity to view storage options that will accommodate your vision and lifestyle. We offer a wide selection of material options, door styles and accessories which are represented on our website. The next step...give us a call so we can make an appointment for a personalized consultation!

How long does it take for a consultation?
We allow approximately 1/2 to 2 hours for the average consultation depending on the scope of the project. This gives us time to evaluate your needs and measure the space you are organizing. It’s important that we have an understanding of exactly what you’d like to accomplish in the space before we start the design process.

What format do you use to present the custom design?
With advanced tecadvancy, we generate floor plans, elevations, as well as 3D renderings using a computer program called KCD. By providing a visual representation of the proposed design, we can communicate the overall design more clearly. Depending on the project, you may want to come into our showroom to see the samples in person, to touch and feel some displays, and get a better idea of what your space will look like.

How much is this going to cost?
Since each individual project is custom designed to meet your needs and wants, we never make the same design twice. Each project starts as sheet goods which are then precision cut, using our CNC machine, to the exact measurements of your design. This provides an extraordinary level of accuracy ensuring that every component of the closet functions smoothly. As a result, we can’t provide you with a cost estimate until we have a better understanding of the scope of your project. Contact us to start the conversation.

What do I need to do to place the order for my design?
Once you’ve approved a design, we require a signed contract and a 50% deposit before we process the paperwork to begin manufacturing and order any specialty items for your custom project.

How long before I can expect my installation?
We schedule jobs based on the complexity of the design and schedule availability. Each cabinet is custom crafted to your specifications, not picked from standard inventory stock. On average, we have a 4—12 week lead time depending on material selection and availability.

What do I need to do before you arrive to install my closet interior?
Prior to installation, the closet must be emptied of its contents. If pre-arranged, we will remove any existing shelving material and patch any holes but we do not paint. Our professional installers ensure that the job is done with precision and will leave the premises clean. You may want to consider a fresh paint job before our units are installed.

Other than closets, where can melamine be used?
Every living or work space can benefit from thoughtful space planning and functional organizational solutions. Melamine has become the product of choice for designers, architects and builders chiefly because it is the most stable, economical, versatile and resource-efficient material available. So, consider our products for home offices, pantries, laundry cabinets, bookcases, mudrooms, garage storage, commercial store fixtures and healthcare.

Do you offer solid wood shelving and cabinets?
Yes! Our standard offerings are maple, oak, walnut and cherry veneered plywood for our cabinet boxes, paired with solid wood face frames, doors, and drawer fronts. Other wood species, such as hickory, are offered as well but subject to availability. Wood veneered plywood is the material of choice for built-ins, cabinets and many kinds of furniture. It is more stable than solid wood and available in many grades and species.

Do you reface kitchen cabinets?
YES! Our production processes and cabinet doors lend themselves beautifully to transforming kitchen cabinets! For a fraction of the cost of replacing your kitchen cabinets, you can update and revitalize your kitchen without the mess of a total renovation.

Do you offer wire shelving systems?
We make it easy to create organized storage spaces for the budget-minded customer. Rubbermaid shelving and accessories are ideal for organizing closets and garages. Rubbermaid’s FreeSlide™ shelving allows hangers to glide the full length of the shelf while Tightmesh™ shelving has decking wires spaced 1/2" apart so small items don’t tip over. Rubbermaid’s environmentally friendly shelving is GreenGuard® certified to promote clean indoor air quality and is manufactured from 100% recycled steel.

Is Rylex insured?
Yes, we are fully insured. We do not use subcontractors and we have the utmost confidence in our installers.

Do you guarantee your products?
Yes! We stand behind our products and installation. If you encounter any problems with our products or installation, we will do everything we can to correct them.

Why should I choose Rylex Custom Cabinetry and Closets to help me organize my home?
Since 1987, we have been the Hudson Valley’s source of custom designed storage solutions. We have the knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm to tackle even the most challenging storage situations. We have a large spectrum of products that allow our designers to offer solutions best suited to your needs and budgetary parameters. Check out our Testimonial page along with reviews on Google and Houzz to hear what our customers are saying.

Why shouldn’t I just buy closet parts from a local home center and install it myself?
While this is always an option, more often than not the total material cost (plus your frustrations) does not justify much of a savings. Next comes the waste factor. Since home centers only provide standard sizes, it leaves you cutting and piecing together parts to fit your space. The precision of our CNC machine minimizes waste by maximizing the yield from each sheet of material, enabling us to create custom units efficiently.

What is melamine (TFL)?
Since it was introduced, TFL (Thermally Fused Laminate) has become the product of choice for designers, architects and builders chiefly because it is the most stable, economical, versatile and resource-efficient material available. Domestically sourced, our products are made from wood fiber sourced from certified, recycled, recovered, and/or controlled sources. Innovative processes have set a new standard of excellence with textured surfaces and trendsetting colors expanding design options.

Our product line includes Tafisa, Arauco and Panolam melamine which have cores of 100% recycled and recovered wood fibers. A melamine resin-impregnated decorative paper is thermally fused onto this core with heat and pressure to create a durable, stain resistant surface. This process produces a permanent bond between the melamine surface and the inner core.

Since no trees are harvested in the production of the melamine products we use, it is the responsible choice for anyone concerned about sustainability. 80% of the raw materials used in the manufacture of our melamine comes from wood processors like lumber mills and furniture plants. The remaining 20% is post-consumer waste wood from construction and demolition.

What sustainability certifications do your products meet?
LEED Certified, CARB Certified, FSC Certified (FSC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits), CPA 4-19 Eco-Certified CompositeTM (ECC) Sustainability Standard (a voluntary industry standard for highlighting the responsible use of wood fiber by manufacturers of composite wood or agrifiber-based panels) Moisture Resistant, Fire Resistant.
